Mondial du Lion – Crédit Mutuel, in harmony with the Sustainable Development Weeks

The Sustainable Development Week has kicked off. It runs from September 18 to October 8 !

The Mondial du Lion – Crédit Mutuel remains committed to taking action.

Each year, this event provides an opportunity to:

              • reflect on our impact on the environment,

              • highlight ecological initiatives that have been carried out,

              • and take concrete steps together to help preserve our planet.

For several editions now, the Mondial du Lion – Crédit Mutuel has been fully engaged in this movement.

Initiatives already in place

Year after year, the Mondial du Lion – Crédit Mutuel has chosen to become a more environmentally responsible event. Among the actions already implemented :

      • The Parc Départemental de l’Isle Briand, where the event takes place, has been developed to help preserve natural areas, protect biodiversity, and reduce soil impact — notably through the reuse of materials.
      • The Mondial has been awarded the REEVE label (Référence Événement Écoresponsable) — a concrete commitment based on waste management, eco-mobility, energy consumption, and more.
It has also earned the EquuRES label, with the Excellence distinction, recognizing a commitment to both horse welfare and environmental stewardship in equestrian facilities.
      • Awareness-raising efforts (such as signage and communication) are in place to inform the public about environmentally friendly practices, along with meaningful partnerships — including La Fresque Équestre and O2M.

What’s new and the reinforced commitments for this edition

For its 2025 edition, the Mondial du Lion – Crédit Mutuel aims to go even further :

                • Selective waste sorting will be available throughout the event, with clearly marked collection points
                • Carpooling is encouraged for everyone, with a dedicated space available on Kuhoo.tz.
                • Soft mobility will be promotedvisitors are encouraged to come on foot, by bike, or by public transport whenever possible. Free shuttle buses will run on Saturday between Angers train station and the Mondial du Lion.

For the first time this year, all Mondial du Lion shuttles will run on biogas — a small step that marks a big move toward a more environmentally friendly event!

The partnership with Aléop will also be renewed — allowing visitors to travel to the Mondial by train and bus from Angers station.

      • Food vendors will use “Boîtes Nomades — a reusable container system that can replace up to 2,000 single-use containers.

      • Used cooking oils will be collected and recycled, contributing to more responsible waste management.

      • Collaborations with local or ethical suppliers will be encouraged for catering services and products available in the event village

Saddle up to reduce our carbon footprint together

Mondial du Lion 2024 by the Numbers :

According to the Carbon Footprint® assessment conducted by the consulting firm O2M, the event generated 1,265 tonnes of CO₂e, averaging 74 kg per visitor. The vast majority of emissions (83%) come from travel, mainly car journeys made by event participants and spectators.

For 2025, the actions mentioned above could help reduce this footprint. If 20% of visitors choose carpooling, nearly 185 tonnes of CO₂e could be avoided.

The role of everyone : visitors, partners, exhibitors & athletes

The Mondial du Lion – Crédit Mutuel cannot act alone: we must act collectively. Year after year, we do everything possible to provide you with the best conditions to fully commit to these actions.

The Mondial du Lion – Crédit Mutuel moves forward with you: every action counts to build a more responsible event together !

            • Visitors, your role is essential: bring your reusable water bottle, sort your waste, limit food waste, prioritize carpooling and soft mobility, and directly contribute to preserving our environment.
            • Exhibitors and partners, you too are key players in this effort: choose eco-friendly packaging (reusable, recyclable, bio-based, compostable, made from recycled materials, etc.), reduce paper printing, and ensure responsible energy consumption to help set a collective example.
            • As organizers, we continue to uphold our commitments by measuring our impacts, sharing our results, and staying open to your ideas to improve every year, supported by the EquuRes label.

Sustainable Development Week is not just three weeks in the fall; it’s a spotlight on commitments pursued throughout the year in a spirit of continuous improvement.

Together, let’s mobilize for a more sustainable future !
