In the heart of an international event like the Mondial du Lion, staying rooted in the local area remains a strength. Once again this year, the event highlights regional expertise through its partnership with Pom’Évasion, a growers’ organization based in Anjou that has been committed to agroecology for over 17 years.
Locally Grown Apples, Cultivated with Care
The Pom’Évasion Group brings together passionate growers who cultivate their orchards using sustainable and environmentally respectful practices. As pioneers of agroecological methods in fruit growing, this producer organization takes its cues from nature: soil preservation, use of biodiversity, and thoughtful orchard management. Each apple reflects this dedication—selected for its flavor, texture, and quality.
Ariane® Apples: Sparkling and 100% Angevine
This small, two-tone apple, with its beautiful red skin dotted with lenticels, was discovered in 2005 at INRAE in Angers, after 26 years of research.
François Cordier, a fruit grower and partner in the Pom’Évasion group, was the first in France to grow Ariane apples organically. Today, he cultivates this variety with his wife Catherine and their children Antoine and Vincent, just a few kilometers from the Parc de l’Isle Briand! Naturally, this delicious apple will be available for tasting throughout the cross-country course and in the village.
A Nature Scavenger Hunt for Young Explorers
Pom’Évasion doesn’t just let visitors taste its apples—it also offers a fun family-friendly activity!
On the Saturday of the Mondial, during the cross-country phase, children and families are invited to take part in a scavenger hunt in the heart of the Parc de l’Isle Briand. Along a path marked with panels, kids will explore nature while learning about:
-
the basics of agroecology,
-
the practices of Anjou-based apple and pear growers,
-
and the key stages of the equestrian eventing competition.
A playful and engaging way to connect discovery, biodiversity, and adventure within the Mondial!
Shared Values
Through this partnership, the Mondial du Lion reaffirms its support for local stakeholders and its commitment to offering meaningful experiences to visitors. Pom’Évasion and the Mondial share strong values: respect for nature, passing on knowledge, and a love of well-crafted work. A collaboration full of meaning, flavor… and memorable discoveries to enjoy on-site!
